This
council is tackling the challenging task of expanding public transportation
options, connecting "the triangle" between Michigan City,
LaPorte and Westville / PNC and reaching out to residents in rural
areas of the county. In preparation, local transporters were interviewed
about existing resources, and council members visited central Indiana
to research a successful coordinated transportation system.
Interested
partners, including Healthy Communities, PAF / Council on Aging,
Purdue North Central, the town of Westville, Swanson Center, Michiana
Resources and the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission
are now meeting together to pursue an implementation plan to make
expanded transportation a reality.
In
2007 , the expert consulting firms of WESTAT and Bernardin, Lochmueller
& Associates met with key stakeholders and gathered data to
conduct a feasibility study regarding potentially expanding transportation
options for the county. For more information about this important
process, call Healthy Communities at 326-6260.
