Program/Service Notes:
Child Abuse Happens! The statistics are frightening. Current research suggests that one out of three females, and one out of every four males will be the victim of abuse. These people may experience physical, emotional or sexual abuse. For some, the abuse can be devastating and the effects long lasting. One means of helping to prevent child abuse, particularly sexual abuse, is to teach children how to take care of themselves. They need to learn about touching and how to distinguish between good, bad and secret touches. They need to learn to say no to the touches that are secret and scary to them. The need to learn who to tell and to keep telling until someone believes them. This program is available to schools in LaPorte County. The LP County Division of Family & Children provides the support for the program; therefore there is no charge to the school. The program is available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. The material is age appropriate. Classes for K through 5th grade can be be combined for a max of 50-60 children. Each presentation will last about 20 minutes. A pre-presentation parent meeting, where a member of the Council's staff will explain the program and its content and answer parent questions, call also be scheduled.
